Pia's American Idol Ejection "Inconceivable?" Not Quite...

If you've been thinking and saying all day that Pia's ejection from American Idol last night was "horrible," "unfair" and even "inconceivable," I'll borrow a line from "The Princess Bride" -- "I do not think that word means what you think it means." It's not "inconceivable" that arguably the most talented singer of the bunch didn't even make the Top 8. In fact, the departure of Simon Cowell all but guaranteed it.
Stop blaming the rest of America, people. If you loved Pia that much, if you are that sorry and angry and upset that she received the lowest number of votes, you should have voted more for her. (That includes you, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson. You've all got AT&T cell phones. You should have pressed a few buttons and sent a few votes in for your favorite gal.)
And stop berating female viewers for voting primarily for guys.  Sure, I love Whitney and Celine, but, the truth is, most of my all time favorite singers ARE guys -- or guy bands. Brad Paisley. Billy Joel. The Eagles. Train. Should I feel pressured to vote for someone I wouldn't listen to on the radio just because we are of the same gender? I want to vote for my favorite without feeling guilty. This is, after all, still America.
And, please, stop bashing Stefano. It's not his fault that Pia went home and it's not the fault of his voters. I'm one of them. I picked him before he sang in the wild card competition, watched some videos of his original music on YouTube, and have been voting for him ever since. I'm a 38 year old female who votes every week for Stefano, not because I'm a "cougar" or because I feel sorry for him, but because, personally, I think he is the most marketable performer in the competition -- male or female. Not all of his performances have been fantastic, but he has a TREMENDOUS voice and, if he finds the right song (and if he ever realizes, in his heart, that he truly DESERVES to be there), he will surprise a whole lot of folks. Guaranteed.
And who are these unprofessional folks calling themselves judges, anyway? They're "angry" with the VOTERS? Give me a break! Aren't they supposed to be impartial? Aren't they supposed to like all these kids the same? Sorry, but Jennifer, Steven and Randy sure sound like a whiney bunch of toddlers when we (America) don't cling onto to the talent THEY discovered like they think we should. And I thought Simon Cowell had an ego!
WE "got it wrong?" Maybe THEY got it wrong! Maybe their egos warped their hearing during the auditions. Maybe they didn't pick the "best of the best." Maybe those egos won't let them admit that, and now, they can't hear a single bad note out of any of them.
I assure you, Simon could have heard some bad notes and performances by now -- and called the contestants on them. All three sitting at that judges table are scared -- scared they might ACTUALLY hear a "boo" from the audience. (Heaven forbid!) Scared someone in the world (gasp!) might not like them for 2 seconds. What I wouldn't give to hear a "Look, if I'm being honest..." in a British accent right now!
If Simon had been around, the save would have still be around, too. I'm just not 100% sure he would have even used it on Pia.
Pia leaving? Regrettable, perhaps. But not inconceivable.
The easy fix is, if you don't want your favorite to leave, stop complaining and vote more. I sure plan to.
